The Mets beat the Rockies 3-1 in the rubber game of their three game series with the Rockies. The Mets have moved to 37-37 on the season, and 10-3 in rubber games.
Mike Pelfrey got the nod for the Mets, throwing 5 2/3 scoreless innings, only allowing three hits. However, he had issues locating his pitches throughout the afternoon and walked five batters. Joe Smith finished off the sixth and the entire seventh, although he gave up the Mets’ only run on a solo HR to Yorvit Torrealba. Duaner Sanchez threw a hitless eighth inning, setting up Billy Wagner for a 1-2-3 ninth.
For the second game in a row, Jose Reyes began the game with a triple, his eighth of the season, which leads the NL. David Wright knocked him home on an infield single. The Mets’ other two runs came from a two run HR off the bat of Carlos Beltran, who has been going through a typical Carlos Beltran tear lately.
The Mets return home tomorrow to face the lowly Seattle Mariners, where aces Felix Hernandez and Johan Santana face off at 7:10 pm.
