After a seemingly smooth start to the evening, the Mets lost to the Rockies 7-1 this evening.

Pedro Martinez started the game beautifully, throwing four scoreless innings with only two hits.  However, the fifth inning was a different story, and Pedro never even found his way out of it.  He allowed six runs in the sixth, including back to back home runs by Garret Atkins and Brad HawpeClaudio Vargas came into end the mess and allowed a run in 2.1 innings of duty.

The Mets’ only run of the evening came in the top of the first.  Jose Reyes began the game with a lead off triple, and then Luis Castillo hit a sacrafice fly to knock him home.  Yes, you read that correctly Luis Castillo hit a sacrifice fly, meaning he hit it to the outfield.  However, the rest of the night was a different story as Ubaldo Jimmenez was able to keep the Mets scoreless after that through 8 innings, with Luis Vizcaino throwing a scoreless ninth to finish it off.

The rubber game of the series is tomorrow afternoon with Mike Pelfrey facing off against Greg Reynolds at 3:05 PM Eastern Standard Time, which is 7:05 am Hawaiian time for all you Hawaiian readers of Hot Foot.
