After a big day with the bats yesterday, the Mets (23-25) were defeated by the Rockies (20-30) by a score of 4-1. John Maine went 6 innings, allowing four runs (three earned which came on a Seth Smith three run homer after Jose Reyes made an error in the fourth inning). Aaron Cook went the distance for the Rockies, allowing only a single run.

Maine was great through three innings, and looked like he was well on his way to his best game of the year. He struck out six in the first 3 frames, but errors came back to bite him.

Jose Reyes drove home Endy Chavez with a single for the Mets only run.

Scott Schoeneweis and Matt Wise pitched well out of the pen, holding the rockies scoreless for 2 innings.

Tough game to swallow, only because A) Maine had good stuff today and B) we played a Rockies lineup missing all of its all stars.

The Mets travel home to face the Florida Marlins tomorrow in the start of a four game set. Mike Pelfrey will face Ricky Nolasco.
