For his column on ESPN.com “The Starting Nine”, this week Jerry Crasnick profiles the nine on field routines that have created an issue with opposing teams or fans.

Number nine on his list is when last year, following his first MLB home run, Lastings Milledge high-fived the fans along the right field line upon returning to his position. The home run, off ex-Met Armando Benitez, tied the game in the bottom of the 10th inning.

Crasnick writes:

What’s the proper balance between “colorful” and “flamboyant,” or a young player having fun without overstepping the generally accepted bounds of propriety? During his time in New York, Milledge seemed to spend an awful lot of time straddling it.

Yes, Jerry to put it lightly he was straddling the line.

I laughed so hard when I read about the sign that was put on his locker reading, “Know your place, Rook!” Either way, probably because of Church’s amazing start I’ve had an easy time getting over the loss of Blastings Thrilledge. He was more of an entertainer in NY than a player, with his rap career, and going out onto the field with that huge cross.
