The following are a set of clues to help you guess three former Mets.  Good luck…

Player #1 (easy):

  • Prior to the 2002 season, the Mets bought this OF from the Pittsburgh Pirates.
  • Later in the 2002 season, he was dealt to the Orioles for John Bale.
  • Since then he has bounced around, but following the 2006 season he signed a 5 year $50 million deal with the Angels.  Subsequently, he was accused of using HGH.

Player #2 (medium):

  • This Ex-Mets RP was probably most knows for sharing his name with another Mets SP.
  •  He pitched for the Mets in 2000 and 2002.
  • The Mets acquired him in 2000 from the Rockies for Japanese SP Masato Yoshii.  In 2002 they traded him along with OF Jason Bay to the Padres.

Player #3 (hard):

  • This Ex-Mets 2B was drafted by the Mets in the 5th round of the amateur draft in 2001.
  • Notably, he was the first Mets player to make the big leagues after playing for the Brooklyn Cyclones, when he made his debut for the Mets in 2003.
  • He played more for the big club in 2004, but never made it to the majors again, and since has been in the minor league systems of the Indians and Yankees.  He now plays in the independent league for the Somerset Patriots.

Answers are Gary Mathews Jr, Bobby Jones and Danny Garcia.
