The Mets(2-4) were defeated by the Phillies(4-4) by a score of 5-2 in the final home opener in Shea Stadium’s history. The winning pitcher was Jamie Moyer, the loser Scott Schoeneweis. Tom Gordon picked up the save.
The Mets got the scoring going in the 2nd when Carlos Delgado belted a Moyer pitch over the right field wall to give the Mets a 1-0 lead. The Mets scored again in the 5th on a Ryan Church rbi groundout.
The Phillies then went to work against Schoeneweis. Show allowed a single to Jimmy Rollins, walked Shane Victorino, and then hit Chase Utley to load up the bases. Ryan Howard followed with a double play ball to Delgado, which he threw and hit Utley in the back. Two runs scored on the play. The Phillies tacked on 2 more runs in the 8th against Aaron Heilman.
The same two teams go at it again tomorrow night at 7:10 EST. Kyle Kendrick will face “The Big Pelf“.

As Dr. Seuss might have said, “This was not good, not good at all!”
My God, if only Delgado had turned the DP instead of plunking the runner en route to 2B. If only…
BP still inspires zero confidence. I wouldn’t mind that they suck if I then had some confidence that our lineup would storm right back.
Is it just me, or does somebody else feel that Damion Easley strikes fear in the hearts of few members of any opposing team? Bad Knees now replaced by Ol’ Bench Warmer. Sheesh!
WHo were those guys who beat the Marlins 7-2 and 13-Ziperoo? Could they please return in their Mets uniforms, or could we just play the Marlins 150 times more this season.
Note to self: never ever fool yourself into thinking Sp Trng means a blessed thing. It doesn’t.
Big Pelf tomorrow…anybody care to guess his ERA by the time he leaves the rubber for the last time in the game? Does he pitch well on cold nights?
This game recap is so non-partisan, so matter-of-fact… oi, what a crappy game!!!
Seemed fine thru 5 and 2/3
then: Walk - Balk - Walk - Passed Ball… and that was the beginning of the end.
I love the line on Heilman:
1 IP | 2 H | 3 BB | 2 ER
That’s swell… just swell.
Aren’t there some little league teams the Mets could trade with to get some better late inning pitchers that Schoeneweis and Heilman?!?!?!?!?!
