Jon Niese is a 6′3″, 190lbs left handed pitcher who has the unique honor of being able to say he was born on the same day the Mets won the 1986 World Series.

Niese was drafted in the 7th round of the 2005 First- Year Player Draft by the Mets. Niese previously pitched for the New York Mets for the St. Lucie Mets and Hagerstown Suns in 2006.

In 2006, Niese had a 3.93 ERA at Low A and a 4.50 ERA at High A. He averages more than a strikeout per inning. He has a 88-91 mph fastball and a swooping plus curveball.

Niese has a little ways to go in terms of his mechanics, particularly working on balancing his upper and lower body in his delivery. His changeup is not particularly impressive.

Niese has a 3.12 ERA this spring.
