According to Ken Mandel at MLB.com, Phillies’ 1B Coach Davey Lopes will undergo surgery for prostate cancer that was discovered during a routine physical at the beginning of spring training.
Lopes played in the big leagues for 17 years, playing for the Dodgers, A’s, Cubs and Astros. In his long career, he knocked 155 HRs, while batting a career .263.
Prior to being the 1B coach of the Phillies, he was the manager of the Brewers from 2000-2002.
Doctors expect a speedy recovery, although he should be away from the field for at least six weeks.
I hope I can say on behalf of all Mets’ fans, we hope you feel better and a speedy recovery. Just hope you know when you’re back in action, no mercy.
