Mets Were Close to Hiring McNamee
According to ESPN.com, the Mets were on the verge of adding the now imfamous Brian McNamee to their staff last year. McNamee is the source who has brought Roger Clemens to trial, supplying Clemens with illegal performance enhancing drugs.
According to the report, Willie Randolph and former hitting coach Rick Down knew McNamee from when he was a member of the Yankees organization, and supported hiring him. However, due to his reputation in the league, Omar Minaya vetoed the decision.
Jeez, dodged that bullet. Imagine how we would have looked having employed both McNamee and Radomski, the other main source of information in the Mitchell Report.
