According to David Lennon of Newsday, El Duque did not have surgery in October to remove a bunion on his right foot as the Mets reported and is causing him to be behind most pitchers as he tries to make adjustments. However, he is planned to face batters on Saturday.

El Duque also told Lennon that his chances of retiring after the 2008 season is 50-50 at this point.
