So everyone this week has been busy scooping up their Johan Santana jerseys. You know who hasn’t? This particular female Mets fan. In fact, this particular Mets fan has decided to boycott all licensed all MLB apparel. And here is why.
I am getting sick and tired of trying to find nice women’s Mets apparel. Now, I am not unrealistic. I don’t think that just because MLB makes something for a man they should offer the same thing for women. But I don’t think asking for MLB.com to sell AUTHENTIC women’s Mets jerseys is all that unreasonable. It is bad enough that when I go to Modell’s or Sports Authority or even the Mets Clubhouse they tell me that if I don’t want a pink jersey, I have to either buy a kids or a mens. And if I don’t want those because my body is not shaped like a child or a man? “Well, you can always go to the website”
Well yes…except MLB.com does not sell authentic women’s jerseys. They ONLY sell the replicas….in one style. Ya know, I would even be ok if they only sold one type of Authentic jersey without offering different colors (such as road or home alternate). But they don’t.
Well the rant is over for now. But I invite everyone to comment with their opinions. I realize not every girl is as into the Mets as I am, but I don’t think offering at least one option for a women’s authentic jersey would be that nuts.

Just a thought, but if it was cut to specifically fit a girl wouldn’t that not be Authentic. I mean I am pretty sure the only way a Jersey could be considered Authentic is if it is the actual style/cut that the players wear. I think you see on the website it says Men’s Authentic and that causes some annoyance because it should just say Authentic because really that is the only way it would be the “real” jersey.
Granted the Website has an incredibly shitty selection for Women, I have seen lots of girls with what it sounds like you want at the games. I would think the best bet is to go to the stadium shop behind home plate they seem to have a lot.
But even if that WAS the case, why aren’t there more colors and styles for the women’s replicas? Why can’t I get a gray one or black one? Why should my choices be so limited?
I’m with you, Metsgal - and I think it might be time for a female commisioner, too. I’m not nominating you (or not not nominating you), but I’m serious about that. Nearly anybody would be better than Bud Selig. I’m pretty sick of sexism in this world - and this is in the US. And to “get along” the US tolerates many other governments and cultures that, well you have seen recently how it goes, will execute you or flog you for being “inappropriately attractive”. I didn’t mean to get so heavy, but yes, I support you on this. Companies, associations and governments shouldn’t be allowed to discriminate based on convenience or economic considerations. I will extend this to only making special Met game single tickets available online. This discriminates against those who don’t have internet or do not wish to buy products online for security reasons.
Give ‘Em Hell, Metsgal!
Cver- I never even thought of that thing with the tickets. Food for thought….
DJ- Just so you know, I have been to all the of the Mets Clubhouse’s at Shea (including the one in the Diamond Suites) and they do not manufacture an authentic women’s jersey. The ones they are wear might be men’s.
What do you think of TOUCH? http://shop.mlb.com/category/index.jsp?categoryId=2838550&cp=2838550
I have thought a lot about the TOUCH line and I find it a really nice attempt to dress up Mets gear. However, it is not somthing every woman can wear and I somtimes feel like it’s the same as the girls I saw with cut-up, mid-drif bearing Manning shirts this weekend. I think the TOUCH line was a nice attempt (considering most of the womens stuff is really ugly and in PINK) especially that most of it is in Mets colors but I think it was exectued poorly.
Kudos to them for the attempt though, I guess.
Can’t go wrong with a good looking girl in a baseball tee…

And why can’t she be a good looking girl in an authentic mets jersey? lol Why is it they will pay up the money for that line but not for an authentic jersey? or even a replica will MORE THAN ONE OPTION. Gr.
