CBSSportsline reports that talks to keep Mike Cameron in San Diego have ceased. Its best summarized with the statement his agent Mike Nicotera gave the press:
“Mike’s tenure in San Diego is over.”
While Cameron was at one point considered to be in decent demand in the off season, he has since been hit with a 25 game ban for stimulant use.
Cameron signed with the Mets in the winter of 03 and led the team in most offensive categories in his initial season, but found himself the odd man out when the Mets won the Carlos Beltran sweepstakes. He never fully adapted to his corner outfield role, colliding with Beltran on a play that injured both. He was traded to the Padres for Xavier Nady.
