The AP spoke with Jose Reyes, who they report is quite happy that the Mets refuse to include him in a deal to the Twins for Johan Santana. According to Reyes:
“I feel good in New York and I want to continue playing there for several more years”
Reyes struggled in the second half, but still finished the season with 57 RBIs and a .280 average, plus 78 steals, a Met record.
Hopefully Jose will rebound and have a better 2008, and Omar’s words towards Jose being a core Met who won’t be traded should help rebuild any confidence the slump caused him to lose. Its easy to forget that Reyes is very young and all that base stealing and running combined with almost no days off was sure to have quite the wear and tear.
