The annual General Managers meeting begins on Monday, where executives from around baseball will gather and discuss rule changes, including the possible limited use of instant replay to help umpires with home run calls. There will of course be lots of rumors flying around possible trade discussions among teams.
Bill Smith, the new Twins GM, who moved into his role when Terry Ryan stepped down last month to focus on scouting, will be a popular figure at the meetings. Smith is looking to kick the tires on what the Twins may be able to get in return for Johan Santana who is due to become a free agent at the end of next season.
White Sox GM Kenny Williams told the Chicago Tribune he’s got a plan and could make a deal as soon as next week. Sox pitcher Jon Garland who has a year left on his contract worth $12 million could factor into those plans.
