Multiple news sources are reporting that the Mets are unlikely to bring in Rudy Jaramillo. Those sources primarily site that Jaramillo, though skilled, might appear too much as a possible replacement for Randolph, therefor undermining his authority. A prime factor appears to be the fact that Jaramillo was one of the original candidates for Willie Randolphs job.

Adam Rubin further reports that Omar plans to bring back the vast majority of the coaching staff, the primary exception being Rickey. No word on who would replace Rickey yet on Willie’s staff.

Much as it would be nice to see Rudy come to NY, can’t really fault the logic involved. It would do no good to improve one aspect of the coaching staff if the overall move weakened the managerial system (Willie). Likewise, I like HoJo, I think he does great work, especially with David Wright, and wouldn’t want to see him gone.

As far as Ricky goes, I don’t see his departure as major. I think he was better as a special assistant, coming in for spring training or to work with one or two players, primarily on patience at the plate and base running. But he never seemed a good choice as a full time coach.
