Okay everyone. Now, take one step back. Take a deep breath. Hold it. Exhale. Keep your hair intact. The Mets losing streak is over, and it came via a game that for the most part was played crisp and clean.
The Mets have been in a pretty rough stretch as we all know, but even with that, the Phillies could not catch this team, and I believe they won’t. Look, the Phillies have been red hot, but we all know the pitching, starting and relieving, can not hold up to the Mets over the final 11 games. I believe this. I know this. This is Philadelphia we are talking about here. They make an art out of blowing play off chances, and this year will be no different.
In the meantime, the Mets have played the worst baseball of the season in my opinion. For those past 5 games the Mets looked lost and confused. However, that was then and this is today. With a 2.5 game lead, the Mets need to win 6 more games to end this race. Just six. Tonight, they go up against, in my opinion, an overrated, living off past success, pitcher in Dontrelle Willis. I’m sorry, I was never big on this guy and still am not. He seems to do well against the Mets, but baseball is about today not yesterday. I think the Mets will start to get hot again. The type of hot that can scare teams in the playoffs.
This team has the ability and tallent to run the table and get to the World Series. All they have to do is put it together. They have Pedro back with Glavine as #2. The bullpen should be sured up with the subtraction of Mota and the addition of Pelfrey and Hernandez (next article topic). The offense? I have one phrase for you this October. The Reyes & Wright connection, coming to a national audience this October. Bet on it!
I think the Mets are going to be more than fine. Afterall, they’ve been in first place for over 320 days. I don’t forsee that streak ending by October 1st.
