It was a pitchers duel. Mostly. It was a 1-0 game after 6 and half, with Ollie dealing and Hudson drawing groundouts, mostly to secondbaseman Prado.
The Mets scored one early. Reyes had a leadoff single, Castillo followed with his own. Reyes advanced to third on a fielders choice, then Beltran sac’d him home. Mets Fast Forward: Sixth inning. Reyes lead off walk, steals second. Castillo bunts him over. And then, David Wright destroys one, homerun 28. Then, to destroy the pitchers duel, Alou hit a triple.
Ollie meanwhile, had a very solid six innings, but gave up a two run homer in the seventh to McCann, really just one bad pitch to ruin his at that point shutout performance. And it wasn’t even that bad a pitch. He still finished with an impressive 7IP, 2ER, 5H, 7K. He’s strikeouts are up, his walks are back down (2BB). Heilman had a 1,2,3 8th, and Wagner’s had an easy save. Both struckout one batter.
Reyes SB was his 75th, he went 1 for 3 with a walk and scored two of the Met runs. Wright homered, walked and stole his 31st base. Alou’s triple was his 39th career, and first as a Met. He hit one in 345 at bats last season with the Giants. Oh, and he’s hit in 15 straight. But seriously, a triple.
The Mets have now won 4 in a row against Atlanta, and a great performance tonight. For those who missed the end, amazing sliding catch by Beltran that robbed the Braves of a 2 out hit. Both pitchers were really on their game tonight, especially Ollie. The bullpen was once again quite effective. The defense looked great. And his one day off seemed to recharge Wright. Now lets come back tommorow and make it five in a row against the Braves. Its the power of Glenn Frey.
