Just a quick look at whats a brewing in the minors.

For those who missed it: Add AA B-Mets first baseman Mike Carp to the ever growing list of injured Mets prospects.  Milledge and Johnson are both still on the DL in New Orleans.

Pitching prospect Vargas just had a tough loss, giving up four runs in just a tad over three innings.  He's now 2-3 witha 5.23 ERA. It was his third straight loss in a string of bad starts for him, during which he's given up 15 runs in 13 innings.  His last win was April 17th vs Memphis. Sosa and Urdanetta were probably the two pitching stars of  New Orleans, and it could be a tough season down there if both remain with the Mets for a considerable amount of time.  The only other starter with a winning record is Chan Ho Park.

Chip Ambres had a bit of a flourish early in the week, going 3 for 4 Monday then hitting a homerun Tuesday.  He's hitting .264 and is expected to play everyday with the other infielders currently injured.  Big name prospect Carlos Gomez is hitting .294.  His speed has contributed to 15 stolen bases (six in the last ten games), though he his hits have been primarily for singles.  He's had just two extra base hits in the last two weeks. Ricky Ledee, the prime suspect should Alou's knee become worse and require a trip to the DL, has gone hitless in five of his last ten games during a stretch that saw just one multihit game. So lets all just hope Alou stays healthy.  Should Ledee continue to struggle and Gomez and Ambres continue to play well, I'm sure Ledee will be moved down on the Next to Be a Met Chart.  Based on experience, I would assume Ambres would get a shot prior to Gomez.
