Sorry for the late postgame, I caught tonights game at the bar.
The story of the game: Oliver Perez, who had poor control and lasted less than 3 innings (as mentioned in the previous post). Only 32 of his 73 pitches were for strikes, and he finished his night by hitting Barajas. His three ER in less than three innings bump his ERA to 3.72, which for a 4th starter isn't terrible. Though a 3.72 ERA would be better if it involved lasting till the 6th inning. Sele replaced Perez, finishign the 3rd then pitching the next four innings. He gave up four hits, two runs, two walks and has an ERA of 3.38. Pedro Feliciano added another hit batsmen and a balk, and Joe Smith continued his streak of not allowing a run to score, finished up the game. Smith faced five batters, striking out one and walking one.
Offensivley the Mets failed to deliver with runners in scoring positions on mulitple occasions. Jose Reyes went two for three with a walk and an RBI. After advancing to third he was stranded in the 1st. He stole his fourth base of the season in, and got caught for the 2nd time. In the fourth, the Mets loaded the bases with no outs, then scored just one when Alou grounded into a double play. The Mets offense had just five hits, one each from Beltran, Wright and Valentin. David Wright commited his first fielding error of the season, extended his hitting streak, and was hit by a pitch from winning pitcher Eaten.
The Mets are now 5-3. There next game is Thursday night. Tom Glavine (1-1, 2.38 ERA) is scheduled to pitch.
