Gotham Baseball's Rumor Mill reports that the Mets made an offer for reliever Chad Bradford but balked when it came to three years.

Despite
some reports to the contrary, the Mets did try to retain his services,
as team insiders say they matched the O's initial two-year offer with a
call to Bradford's agent on Monday.  The
two sides appeared close to coming to an agreement, as GBM reported on
Tuesday, but when Baltimore came back with a guaranteed three years,
Bradford couldn't say no.

Bradford's exit was no surprise to NY Sportsday's Joe McDonald, who covers the Mets for the Wave of Long Island.  He told GBM last August that the Mets wouldn't resign Bradford because the Mets “don't think that they need to spend that kind of money on guys they can replace with cheaper players.”

Having
Heilman, setup man Duaner Sanchez and closer Billy Wagner as the
7th-8th-9th inning guys in the bullpen does still give the Mets a
formidable relief corps, it just may not be as deep – at this moment,
anyway — as it was in 2006.
